How To Play With Us

IMPORTANT

  1. Please register to play on the Sessions page to attend and join our group on Facebook for other updates.

  2. Show up at Auckland Badminton Hall, 99 Gillies Ave 10 minutes prior so we can set you up in the system.

  3. Once in the system, the games will be automatically made every 15 minutes and play with new people each time.

  4. The first 15 minutes is a warm-up so jump on any court with anyone and have a hit.

  5. Every 15 minutes, a bell will be rung and games will finish. Head back to the main area to see the court you are on for the next game. If you aren’t on the screen then you have a game off.

We are a not-for-profit social badminton group based in Auckland, New Zealand. While most of us identify as part of the LGBTQI+ community, anyone is welcome to join us.

The club was founded by Ken Crawford in early 2000s and is now being run by a group of volunteers. Our goal is to provide a safe and friendly environment for the LGBTQI+ community.

Social events outside of badminton are organized from time to time, and you can view the photos taken at our past events in the gallery section. Please inform us if you would not like to be included in any photos.

We also organize tournaments, such as the Trans Tasman Tournament, Pinoy Tournament and our new internal tournament for players who are a bit more competitive or just simply want to meet new friends from other social clubs.

1. When are the club days?

We usually play on Wednesday evenings and during the day on Saturday or Sunday. Please note that sometimes days and times will change.

2. Where do you play and how do I find you?
We play in the Auckland Badminton Hall at 99 Gillies Avenue, Newmarket (Epsom). Come inside the badminton hall and look for courts that have been booked for us. The Committee member on duty is usually the person standing right next to a computer, they might be playing at the time but will return every 15 minutes.

3. How much is it?
The cost is $20 for three hours, or $7 per hour if you are not a member. If you have officially joined the club, the cost is $5 for one hour or $15 for three hours on Weekends. Wednesday nights club play is $15 for Members and $20 if you are not a member. Your membership fee will cover the main club play season currently until May. We currently accept bank transfer only, but if you would like to pay via cash, please ask one of the Committee members on duty for assistance. This is a not-for-profit group and the money we collect from you pays for court bookings, new shuttles and if there is money left at the end of the year, the Christmas meal.

4. Do you provide shuttlecocks?
Yes, we use feather shuttles.

5. What do I need to bring?
You will need to bring a racquet (or you can hire one from the pro-shop in the badminton hall), indoor shoes, a bottle of water and perhaps a towel. There are showers in the changing room upstairs so you are welcome to bring a change of clothes with you. Please note that it is important that you wear proper non-marking shoes as they will protect you from injuries.

6. How do you organize who is playing with whom?
Each game is about 15 mins long and we use badminton court placement computer program that will randomly put 4 people on a court of a few around your level, then sometimes a mixed game with higher or lower level.

7. Are there many female players in your group?
There are a few regular female players at present, and we would love to have more women in the group.

8. Can I bring a friend?
Yes, the more the merrier.

9. I don't know the scoring system, can I still play?
Yes, you can learn the badminton scoring system while playing with other people in the club. You may also want to have a read online first.

10. How do I register my attendance?
Registration is through our website in the Sessions tab. All our social events are also posted here or also on the Facebook group.
