May Club Update
Well, it certainly has been a challenging few months! With Omicron introduced into the community in late January this certainly has challenged the club for the early part of the season. Though we are very pleased to say we have continued to play on weeknights through this pandemic with no case outbreaks!
Just for your reference, there were two big events planned for this summer ( Big Gay Out and Boat Cruise) which both had been booked and organised in Feb / March only to be cancelled as per most events, but we will look at running the cruise as we go into Summer and plan for 2023 BGO.
As you are all aware we delayed Membership fee for the year as we were looking at fees for this year as we have already had two increases in court costs this year from the ABA; with the last only announced a few weeks ago. So, it is exceptionally hard to plan, last year we went out early with costs without having confirmed costs from the ABA which hurt the club financially.
Auckland Feathers has not increase club play rates or member ship rates in over two years. In this time:
- Weekday Courts has gone up from $23 and now $27.50 an hour +16% increase
- Weekend Courts have gone up from $17 and now $18.50 an hour +8% increase
- Shuttle costs have increased massively they were $24.05. Now $31.05 a tub +22% increase
So whilst we have not changed membership rate we have had to increase Wednesday Night Club Play and Non-Member costs to play.
Membership Fees for 2022
The 2022 Feathers membership fee is $75. All details are HERE
Club Play will now be $15 for Weeknights ($20 for Non-Members) and $15 for three hours on Saturdays. ($22.50 for Non-Members).
We really appreciate you joining/re-joining as soon as possible, and ensuring that the club remains strong.
Club play in 2022
The Feathers 2022 Club Season will run from 1 May–30 November. Play will be on:
- Wednesday evenings (7-9pm)
- Saturday mornings (10am-1pm)
Summer Club will happen in December, January, February where membership will still be valid.
We hope to be able to stick to these days and times for the whole year, however it is possible that these could change; we’ll update you if any changes are on the horizon.
A gentle reminder to observe some basic courtesy at club play:
- Please pick up the used shuttles at the end of each club play.
- Don’t hit shuttles along the ground—shuttles are expensive and we need them to last as long as possible.
- Please understand that the people deciding on games on board duty are doing the best they can to balance a range of factors: different skill levels and styles of play, providing a variety of games for everyone, different personalities, helping develop players, and ensuring that everyone has a reasonable number of games.
- Please pay your club fee whenever you play! We have a high level of trust but need you to do your bit.

Saturday 18th June - NO CLUB PLAY due to tournaments at ABA
Sunday 19th June - 1-4pm

AGA – Auckland Feathers Badminton Club
Apologies for the delay in the AGM, we have been waiting for the ABA to confirm court costs which happened on the 21st April. So therefore, we could not 100% confirm costings for the year. Even though we have given Facebook updates over weeknight club play cost on the 25th February.
Due to our club constitution we need to hold an AGM every year. This will be help on the 1PM Saturday 28th May. More details to follow.
Trans-Tasman Tournament
Everything is all now confirmed so we're good to go and get everything going finally! We have this very quick flyer to spread around and hope to see as many people as possible!
"The Trans-Tasman Tournament in 2022 is all go, borders are open and we can't wait to welcome you all here to Auckland after such a long time! The tournament will be held on Saturday 29 October in the usual TTT mixed double style and welcome to all skill levels, beginner to pro.
To celebrate finally being together again, we're working together with the NZ famous Theta project to bring a fabulous Halloween party too. The combination ticket will include an exclusive preparty for us and opens into Auckland's most iconic dance party with something for everyone shows galore, international DJs and performers!
